Highlights • Scleritis is a rare ocular inflammatory disease caused by occlusive vasculitis of the deep episcleral plexus. • An infectious etiology must be considered in case of scleritis that does not respond to standard treatments. • For any scleritis resistant to the usual treatment: scleral biopsy (anatomopathology) and PCR to study the viral genome. • A trial antiviral treatment can be considered, given the excellent response in proven herpetic scleritis.
