Highlights • Immunosenescence contributes to severe COVID-19 in elderly patients. • Genetic background and epigenetic-sensitive mechanisms can affect immunosenescence. • ACE2 hypomethylation in lungs and H3 citrullination in neutrophiles were associated with severe outcome. • We review recent literature evaluating the effects of supplements such as statins, L-arginine, and resveratrol. • These supplements could mediate anti-inflammatory effects epigenetically and might improve COVID-19 outcome.
